HP 952XL Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages can HP 952XL print?
This high yield aftermarket HP 952XL black cartridge prints 2,000 pages (same as an OEM HP 952XL black) per cartridge -- that's 100% MORE PAGES than a standard HP 952 ink cartridge. Fits and installs just like an original HP 952. Fits in the same slot as a black HP 952.
What is the difference between HP 952 and 952XL?
The HP 952 is a standard cartridge and the 952XL is a high yield cartridge. High yield cartridges contain more ink than a standard cartridge but has the same dimensions so it should fit perfectly in the same slot as a standard cartridge.
A standard HP 952 black ink cartridge prints 1,000 pages; an HP 952XL black ink cartridge prints 2,000 pages (twice the number of pages you can get from a standard 952 cartridge).
Each standard HP 952 cyan, magenta, and yellow ink cartridge prints 700 pages; each high yield HP 952XL cyan, magenta, or yellow ink cartridge prints up to 1,600 pages.
Are HP ink cartridges 950 and 952 interchangeable?
No, they are NOT interchangeable. You cannot use the 952 on printers that use the 950 and vice versa. All HP printers are designed to work with specific cartridges only. Although the HP 950 and 952 look practically the same, they come with different chips that communicate only with their designated printers. For this reason, the printers that use the HP 952 can't use anything else but HP 952 and 952XL ink cartridges, and printers that use the HP 950 only use HP 950 ink cartridges.
Are HP 952 and 951 Compatible?
No, the 952 and 951 are NOT compatible and not interchangeable.

Replacement Quality Delivery Price Service Experience
Review by Anthony on 30 Jan 2025review stating Super service
With a great sale I was able to pick up several cartridges of different colors. I keep them in stock until I needed them. When I went to use them my printer couldn't communicate with them. When I called and explained my situation LD replaced my defective cartridges without question. Shipping was quick. I will definitely purchase from LD again.

Cartridges work just fine after adjusting My printer to accept the other LD cartridges. He walked me through the set up. And allowed me to send the ones back that were not working at all. Great service.
Q: How long can I store an unused/unopened cartridge before it becomes unusable?
Store Owner
09/13/22
A: Cartridges contain components that are sensitive to light, temperature, and humidity. Never expose the cartridge to direct sunlight, or to room light. Bright light and direct sunlight can permanently damage a cartridge. If original packaging is not available, cover the top opening of the cartridge with paper and store in a dark cabinet.

Q: The last LD 952XL black leaked to the point that ink was all over printer and me. Had to go to Office Depot to purchase the HP 952 for $56.00. Can the new one be checked over so it doesn't pour out of cartridge?

Q: I replaced the black ink cartridge with the new one and of all things black ink was all over my printer and me. I was printing part of a program so had to go to Office Depot and purchase the 952 XL Black for $56.00. Lucked out as they had only that one. If there was a way to fill the old cartridge with the ink from the new one I would do that. The ones have printed on them HR00952KL BK

Q: I made the mistake of having the auto update turned on, which was dumb, and the printer has the new firmware. Is there a way to use your cartridges with the new firmware or is there going to be a solution in the future? I love your products and they haven't caused me any problems for a couple years now. Thanks in advance!

Q: Is there an inherant problem in remanufacturing these cartridges? I have tried replacements from a different remanufacturer (LxTek) with similar results. The yellow 952XL inserted fine but the software would not recognize it as new. I also had a visible chip (the OEM did not) and the reciever slot configuartion was different from the OEM. Am I wasting my time and yours by ordering at this time or is more R&D time necessary? I have a HP 8702,

Q: I have the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710. The two cartridges (LOS67AN) I got did not work. I ordered a batch of doubles for each color. I am in contact already with customer service for the yellow one (I will be waiting and hoping that the replacement will work). If I come across the same problem with the other colors when its time to use them, can I still request a replacement for them?

Q: does the printer read the chip as well as it would an HP ink cartridge
Store Owner

A: Yes, this ink cartridge has a smart chip which allows you to track the ink level of the ink cartridge.
Name Brand (OEM) Cartridge
OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same
company that made your printer. Name brand cartridges are designed to work with specific
printers and are sometimes the only option if your printer is new or uncommon.
Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model, selling their printers for
cheap while marking up the cost of their cartridges, which often results in higher priced ink.
Name brand cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer
manufacturer.
$
LD-Brand Compatible Cartridge
A compatible cartridge is a brand new printer cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your
printer. It’s like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are designed slightly
different from the name brand but they will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just
like the OEM.
Compatible ink is much cheaper than the name brand. Compatible suppliers don’t have to worry about
the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Premium compatible cartridges from LD Products match the quality and output of the name brand for
less and are backed by a lifetime guarantee.
$
LD-Brand Remanufactured Cartridge
Remanufactured cartridges are name brand cartridges that have gone through one cycle of use. After
use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous
professional refurbishing process where it is disassembled, cleaned and tested for quality. It’s
then refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured cartridges prevents one
less cartridge from entering the landfill.
Remanufactured cartridges are much cheaper than the name brand. It’s far more cost effective to
refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch.
Premium remanufactured cartridges from LD Products match the quality and output of the name brand
for less and are backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Material

Toner Powder
How it works
Uses a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink onto the page.
Uses static electricity and heat to bond toner powder to the page.
Who uses it?
Commonly used by families, small businesses, and photographers.
Large businesses and schools.
What cartridge size should I buy?
Standard Yield
High Yield
Extra High Yield
A standard yield cartridge is the most common cartridge size and since it prints a smaller number of
pages compared to a high yield or extra high yield cartridge, it can often be purchased at a cheaper
price. If you don’t print regularly, standard cartridges are a great choice.
A high yield (also called high capacity) cartridge contains more ink or toner than a standard printer
cartridge and since it prints more pages, it is more expensive too. However, if you normally print a
lot, getting a high yield cartridge is a better value.
An extra high yield cartridge contains even more ink and costs more than a high yield cartridge.
This is more suitable for document-heavy office users. These cartridges aren’t as common as standard
yield or high yield cartridges - not every printer has an extra high yield option!
How many pages will my cartridge print?
A cartridge’s page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page
coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has
been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge
that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters,
photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly. Since
everyone’s printing habits are different, actual page yield can vary from user to user. LD brand cartridges
are filled to the same capacity and will print the same number of pages, if not more, than the name brand
cartridge. You can find the estimated page yield of your cartridge in the specs table on our cartridge
pages!

Shelf Life
24-36 Months
How long will my cartridge last?
The shelf life of a printer cartridge can vary depending on what sort of cartridge you are using. The average
shelf life for a compatible cartridge is 36 months, while the shelf life for a name brand cartridge is only 24
months. If your printer uses ink cartridges, the ink inside can dry out over time, which can cause your printer
to clog. To prevent clogging, we recommend printing once every couple of weeks to keep your cartridges primed.
Due to the plastic nature of toner powder, toner cartridges will not dry out the same way an ink cartridge
would, but internal cartridge components can wear with repeated use.
Does my LD cartridge come with a chip to read accurate ink levels?
Yes, almost all LD cartridges are equipped with a new chip that will accurately read the ink levels on your
printer’s display. There are some remanufactured cartridges that may not accurately read in your printer but
they are still filled to capacity and will print the same number of pages as a name brand cartridge. If you
know roughly how long it takes you go to go through a name brand cartridge you can use that as your baseline
to manually track cartridge usage.
How easy is an LD cartridge to install?
LD cartridges install the exact same way as the name brand and they are guaranteed to fit and function in the
same way too!
Does using an LD cartridge void my printer's warranty?
It does not! The use of compatible or remanufactured printer cartridges will not void your printer’s warranty.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act protects your rights
and warranty as a consumer.
Can compatible cartridges work alongside name brand cartridges?
Yes, you can use compatible cartridges alongside name brand cartridges - they WILL work together in your
printer.
