Ink Cartridges for the HP OfficeJet 8720

What ink does HP OfficeJet 8720 use?

The HP 8720 printer uses the black, cyan, magenta, and yellow HP 952 or 952XL (high yield) cartridges. It needs 4 color cartridges installed for it to work. It also uses the extra high yield HP 956XL black ink cartridge.

How many pages can an OfficeJet 8720 cartridge print?

Standard:
A standard HP 952 black (F6U15AN) ink cartridge prints up to 1,000 pages. Each standard HP 952 cyan (L0S49AN), magenta (L0S52AN), or yellow (L0S55AN) cartridge prints up to 1,000 pages.

High Yield:
The black HP 952XL high yield (F6U19AN) ink cartridge prints at least 2,000 pages. Each color HP 952XL high yield cartridge (L0S61AN, L0S61AN, L0S61AN) prints at least 1,600 pages each.

HP 952 vs HP 952XL

The HP 952 is a standard cartridge. The 952XL is a high yield cartridge that contains more ink and can print more pages than a standard 952. The HP 952 and 952XL have the same dimensions and can fit in the same slot. Each high yield HP 902XL color cartridge can print more pages than a standard color HP 952 cartridge.

How do I install ink cartridges in HP OfficeJet 8720?

1. Turn on the printer.
2. Locate the cartridge access door which is behind your printer's LCD screen. Lift it and then push it back.
3. Your printhead should start moving. Wait until it stops in the middle before you continue.
4. Gently push the front of the empty cartridge to release it.
5. Pull it out and set it aside for recycling.
6. Remove the packaging from your new cartridge. Avoid touching the copper contacts near one of the corners of the cartridge. Touching the contact can result in printer errors or ink failure. Avoid touching the ink ports as well.
7. Slide the new cartridge into the slot vacated by the empty cartridge. Make sure it's the same color by matching the letter on the cartridge with the letter on the printhead.
8. Push back until it clicks into place.
9. Pull down the cartridge access door.
10. The printhead will move back to its ready position.
11. You're now ready to print!
