What ink does Canon TR8520 use?

The Canon PIXMA TR8520 printer uses 5 ink cartridges in order to print: 1 Canon PGI-280 pigment black ink cartridge, and 4 Canon CLI-281 cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow). Canon PGI-280 and CLI-281 cartridges come in higher yield cartridges. High yield cartridges maintain the same dimensions as a standard cartridge but contain more ink so they print more pages. Super high yield PGI-280XXL and CLI-281XXL cartridges are available so you can get more pages.

Does the Canon PIXMA TR8520 come with ink?

Yes, the PIXMA TR8520 comes with ink when you buy it. The cartridges in it, however, are what we call starter cartridges and are cartridges that do not contain the same volume of ink as regular ink cartridges. It is advisable to purchase a set of Canon PGI-280 and Canon CLI-281 cartridges at the same time you purchase a TR8520 printer to avoid having to run to the store when your ink runs out.

What kind of ink does Canon PIXMA TR8520 use?

- The Canon PGI-280 (as well its higher yield counterparts 280XL and 280XXL) contain pigment-based black ink. Pigment-based ink is good for water- and fade-resistant documents. Pigment ink also makes deeper blacks. PGI stands for pigment ink.
- The Canon CLI-281 ink cartridges used by the TR8520 come in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. CLI-281 cartridges standard dye-based ink. Dye-based ink is perfect for more vivid color printouts. And yes, the TR8520 uses two blacks (one pigment and one dye-based).
