What ink does HP 7740 use?

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer uses HP 952 and 952XL ink cartridges. HP 952 cartridges come in 4 colors: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. You need all 4 cartridges installed for you to print.

HP 952 cartridges are standard yield cartridges while HP 952XL cartridges are high yield cartridges. High yield ink cartridges contain more ink and print more pages than standard cartridges. If you print a lot, it is recommended you get high yield cartridges.

How do I change the ink cartridge on my HP OfficeJet Pro 7740?

1. Lift the top of the printer by pulling on the latch on the left hand side of the printer.
2. Wait for the cartridges to stop in the middle. Gently push down on the empty cartridge to unlatch it then carefully pull it out. Set aside empty cartridge for recycling.
3. Remove packaging of your new HP 952 / 952XL replacement cartridge--make sure to remove the plastic tab or clip.
Pro Tip: When removing the tab or clip from aftermarket 952 cartridges, it is advisable to do it over a trash bin while wearing gloves as some of these cartridges might leak.
4. Slide the cartridge replacement into the empty slot and click it into place.
5. Close the printer door.
6. Your printer will display a “Genuine Cartridge Installed” message if you installed an original HP cartridge. For non-OEM cartridges, it will display something like "Non-HP Cartridges: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP supplies." You can bypass this message by simply clicking the OK button to proceed.
